Overview

GaitMetrics ("we," "us," "our," or "Company") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you use our GaitMetrics mobile application ("App").

1. Data We Collect

1.1 Motion Sensor Data

GaitMetrics accesses your iPhone's motion sensors (accelerometer and gyroscope) to measure walking patterns. This data:

• Is processed entirely on your device
• Is not transmitted to external servers
• Is stored locally in your phone's app sandbox
• Remains under your control at all times

1.2 User Profile Information (Pro Tier Only)

If you purchase the Pro tier, you may optionally provide:

• Age and biological sex (for age-group normative comparisons)
• Height in centimeters (for stride length estimation)
• Injury type and date (for recovery milestone tracking)

This information is stored locally on your device only and is not shared with us or any third party.

1.3 Session Data

Walking sessions include:

• Date, time, and duration
• Computed metrics (step count, cadence, gait speed, symmetry, stability)
• Sensor timeline data (acceleration samples)

All session data is stored locally on your device and is not uploaded to any server.

1.4 Exercise Results (Pro Tier Only)

Timed Up & Go, Sit-to-Stand, and Single Leg Stance results are stored locally on your device only.

2. How We Use Your Data

We do not use your data for:

• Tracking or monitoring your location
• Building user profiles for advertising
• Selling or sharing personal information with third parties
• Machine learning or model training
• Analytics or behavior tracking

We use your data only to:

• Calculate and display gait metrics within the app
• Store your sessions for historical review
• Provide recovery milestones and exercise interpretations (Pro)

3. Data Storage & Security

3.1 Local Storage

All gait data and user profile information is stored locally on your iPhone in the app's sandboxed document directory. This storage is protected by:

• iOS file system encryption
• App sandbox isolation (no other app can access GaitMetrics data)
• Your device's passcode/Face ID/Touch ID

3.2 Cloud Backup

If you back up your iPhone to iCloud, your GaitMetrics data may be included in that backup. This is controlled by your iOS backup settings, not by GaitMetrics. You can disable GaitMetrics from iCloud backup in Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → Manage Storage.

3.3 Data Deletion

You can delete individual sessions or all data directly within the app. Deleting the app removes all GaitMetrics data from your device.

4. Third-Party Services

4.1 Apple App Store (Required)

Service: App distribution and in-app purchase processing

Data Shared: Anonymous in-app purchase history (for Pro tier unlock)

4.2 No Analytics or Tracking

GaitMetrics does not integrate Google Analytics, Mixpanel, Firebase, Sentry, or any analytics/crash reporting service. We do not track user behavior, app usage, or performance metrics.

4.3 No Advertising

GaitMetrics does not include ads or advertising networks (Google AdMob, Facebook Audience Network, etc.). The free tier has no ads.

5. Health & Wellness Information

Important Notice: GaitMetrics is a wellness app, not a medical device. Walking metrics and insights are:

• Estimates based on smartphone sensors
• Not diagnostic tools
• Not intended to replace professional medical evaluation

If you have medical concerns about your mobility or recovery, please consult your healthcare provider. GaitMetrics data is not appropriate for clinical decision-making without professional interpretation.

6. Children's Privacy

GaitMetrics is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that a child under 13 has provided information, we will promptly delete it.

Parents or guardians who believe their child has used GaitMetrics should contact us immediately.

7. Your Privacy Rights

7.1 Data Access

All your data is stored on your device. You can view, export, or delete your session history at any time within the app.

7.2 Data Portability

GaitMetrics stores data in JSON format locally. You can access and export this data through standard iOS file management.

7.3 Right to Delete

You have full control over your data. You can delete individual sessions, all sessions, or uninstall the app entirely to remove all data from your device.

7.4 Opt-Out of Backup

To prevent your GaitMetrics data from being backed up to iCloud, disable it in Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → Manage Storage → GaitMetrics.

8. International Users

GaitMetrics is developed in the United States. If you are located in the EU, UK, or other regions with data protection laws:

• GDPR: Since all data is stored locally, GDPR does not directly apply to GaitMetrics' data handling. However, you retain all rights under GDPR over your own data.
• Data Transfers: No personal data is transferred to external servers, so international transfer concerns do not apply.

9. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)

California residents have the right to:

• Know what personal information is collected and how it's used
• Delete personal information (you can delete all GaitMetrics data within the app)
• Opt-out of data sales (GaitMetrics does not sell data)

Since GaitMetrics stores data locally and does not share it with third parties, CCPA requirements for data sale opt-outs do not apply.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. We will notify you of material changes by updating the "Last Updated" date above. Your continued use of GaitMetrics after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
