The Andy Terminal — Privacy Policy

Overview

The Andy Terminal is a macOS financial terminal. Your privacy matters. This policy explains exactly what data the app stores, how it is used, and what — if anything — leaves your device.

Data Stored On Your Device

The following information is stored locally on your Mac using macOS UserDefaults and Keychain. It is never transmitted to any server or shared with any third party:

• Watchlist — Your saved ticker symbols and personal buy prices.
• API keys — Your Finnhub, Hugging Face, and FRED API keys are stored in macOS UserDefaults (for display in Settings) and macOS Keychain (for secure storage). They are never sent anywhere except the respective third-party APIs you configured them for.
• Appearance preference — Light, Dark, or System mode.
• Selected ticker state — The last ticker you searched for, restored on next launch.

All of the above lives exclusively on your device. Deleting the app removes it entirely.

Network Requests

The app makes outbound network requests solely to fetch financial data you requested. No user-identifying information is included in these requests. The data sources are:

• Yahoo Finance — Real-time quotes, options chains, and price history. Accessed via public APIs; no account or credentials transmitted.
• Stooq — Index quotes as a fallback data source. Accessed via public CSV API; no credentials transmitted.
• SEC EDGAR — Financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, cash flow). Public API; no credentials transmitted. The app identifies itself with a generic User-Agent string per EDGAR's fair-access guidelines.
• Finnhub — Company news, earnings dates, and symbol search. Only contacted if you have configured a Finnhub API key in Settings.
• Hugging Face Inference API — FinBERT sentiment analysis on news headlines. Only contacted if you have configured a Hugging Face API token in Settings.
• FRED (Federal Reserve Economic Data) — Economic indicator data. Only contacted if you have configured a FRED API key in Settings.
• Wikipedia — Company overview text used in the Research tab. Accessed via the public MediaWiki API; no credentials transmitted.
• RSS feeds — 14 curated financial news sources, fetched to populate the News tab. No credentials transmitted.

Bug Reports (Optional, User-Initiated)

The app includes an optional bug-reporting feature accessible via Help → Report a Bug… or Settings → Send Feedback. If you choose to submit a report, the following information is sent to Web3Forms, a third-party form-submission service:

• The description you typed
• Your reply email address (only if you chose to provide one)
• App version, macOS version, and a filtered subset of recent app log entries (only if you left the "Include diagnostic info" toggle on)

This submission is always user-initiated — nothing is sent automatically. Web3Forms forwards the report to the developer's email. No data is retained by Web3Forms beyond message delivery. For details, see Web3Forms Privacy Policy.

Subscriptions

The Andy Terminal offers an auto-renewable subscription ($4.99/month) with a one-month free trial, processed entirely by Apple through the Mac App Store. We never see or handle your payment information. Subscription management is handled by Apple; see Apple's Privacy Policy for details.

Analytics and Tracking

The Andy Terminal contains no analytics SDKs, crash reporters, advertising frameworks, or tracking tools of any kind. We do not collect usage statistics, telemetry, or behavioral data.

Data Collection Summary

We collect no personal data. All app data (watchlist, API keys, preferences) is stored locally on your device and never leaves it, except for the optional user-initiated bug report described above.

Children's Privacy

The Andy Terminal is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to This Policy

If we update this privacy policy, we will post the revised version here with an updated date.
