Frequently Asked Questions

Does this app require a subscription?

No. P2P CoParent is free to download and use. The only purchase is a one-time $1.99 unlock for PDF export. Once purchased, you can generate unlimited reports forever with no additional charges.

Does my data go to a server or cloud?

No. All ledger data is stored entirely on your device using Apple's encrypted SwiftData framework. Nothing is uploaded to any server. The app works fully offline.

How does syncing work?

Sync happens over Bluetooth when both parents open the Sync tab and tap Start hand-off while physically near each other. No internet connection is required. All synced data is encrypted end-to-end using a shared secret that never leaves your devices.

Do I need WiFi for the hand-off sync?

No internet or WiFi network is required. However, the WiFi radio on both phones must be turned on (the radio, not a network connection). Turn WiFi off in Settings rather than using airplane mode — airplane mode powers the WiFi radio off completely and will prevent discovery. Bluetooth must also be on.

What is the QR code pairing for?

Pairing establishes a shared encryption key between your two devices. Only devices that have been paired can read each other's synced data. Pairing only needs to be done once. If you or the other parent gets a new phone, you will need to pair again.

What happens if both parents edit the same record?

P2P CoParent uses a conflict-free merge system. When syncing, the most recently edited version of any record wins. Deletions are also synchronized, so if one parent deletes a record, it is removed on both devices after the next sync.

Why does the Custody screen show the same parent on both phones after syncing?

After syncing, both phones show the correct parent for each custody period. If you see an unexpected name, make sure both parents have entered their names correctly in Settings and that the app is updated to the latest version.

Why does a custody overlap warning appear?

When you save a custody period that overlaps with an existing one, P2P CoParent warns you. You can tap Edit Time to correct the times, or tap Shared Time if both parents genuinely plan to be with the child at the same time — for example, a school event or birthday party.

How does PDF export work?

Go to Settings, tap Export PDF report, choose a date range, and tap Generate PDF report. The first time you tap Generate, you will be prompted to unlock PDF export for a one-time $1.99 purchase. After purchasing, you can generate reports at any time at no additional cost.

I already purchased PDF Export but it is asking me to buy again.

Tap Restore Purchase on the purchase screen. Your Apple ID will be verified and the purchase will be restored at no charge. If the problem persists, make sure you are signed in with the same Apple ID you used for the original purchase.

What is included in the PDF report?

The PDF report covers the date range you choose and includes: all shared expenses with receipt images, reimbursement history, custody log, and journal entries. The report is formatted for legal use and is suitable for mediation, court proceedings, and legal counsel.

Can I attach receipts to expenses?

Yes. When adding or editing an expense, tap the receipt camera icon to attach up to 5 photos. Receipts are included in the PDF report appendix with cross-references to the relevant expense rows.

How do I track partial payments toward a reimbursement?

Go to Expenses and tap Reimbursements. Any shared expense with a balance appears there automatically. Tap an expense to view its payment history and use the + button to record a payment installment. The remaining balance updates with each payment.

Where is the data stored if I delete the app?

All ledger data is stored locally on your device. Deleting the app removes all data permanently. The shared pairing key is stored in your device's Keychain and is also removed when the app is deleted.

Can I reset the pairing without losing my ledger data?

Yes. Go to Settings and tap Reset pairing. This removes the shared encryption key and plan connection from your device. Your expenses, custody records, journal entries, and reimbursements are not affected. You will need to pair with the other parent again to resume syncing.
